The Monday Golf Round-Up: Clark Holds Firm as Jamieson Triumphs in Scotland

The final round of a golf tournament rarely follows the script. Wyndham Clark discovered that at Bellerive on Sunday, watching a five-shot lead disappear before recovering spectacularly over the closing holes.

There was also a long-awaited home victory in Scotland, an LPGA scoring record in Canada and a new name making history at LIV Golf’s season finale.

Clark survives McIlroy charge at Bellerive

Wyndham Clark won the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club, completing the four rounds on 17 under par and collecting his third PGA Tour title of the season.

It was considerably less comfortable than the final margin suggested.

Clark began Sunday with a five-shot advantage, but Rory McIlroy steadily reduced the deficit and had drawn level by the 11th hole. For a time, it appeared the Northern Irishman might complete one of the most impressive final-round comebacks of the year.

Clark responded when it mattered. He birdied each of the final three holes to finish three shots ahead of Patrick Cantlay and four clear of McIlroy.

The victory earned Clark $3.6 million and 750 FedExCup points, while confirming his position as one of this season’s outstanding players.

Cantlay’s runner-up finish was also enough to take him into the top 30 of the FedExCup standings. Gary Woodland and Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre secured their places at the Tour Championship, but Rickie Fowler was among those who missed out. PGA Tour tournament report

Jamieson ends a 14-year wait in Scotland

Scott Jamieson gave the home spectators plenty to celebrate at the Nexo Championship, winning his second DP World Tour title almost 14 years after his first.

The Scot produced a closing 67 to finish on 11 under par, two shots ahead of England’s Matthew Jordan. Andy Sullivan completed a strong British presence near the top of the leaderboard by finishing third on seven under.

Jamieson’s previous victory came at the Nelson Mandela Championship in 2012. The precise gap between his two wins was 13 years and 257 days.

The victory also secured his DP World Tour membership for another two seasons and lifted him from 135th to 42nd in the rankings. He collected the Closing Swing title as well, earning an additional $200,000 bonus.

Richard Mansell supplied another highlight with a course-record 65 on Sunday. Shaun Norris had a less enjoyable final day, receiving a two-shot penalty after moving a divot beneath his feet and being judged to have improved the conditions affecting his stroke. DP World Tour report

Yamashita produces record-breaking display in Canada

Miyu Yamashita delivered the weekend’s most emphatic performance at the CPKC Women’s Open.

The Japanese golfer led from start to finish at Royal Mayfair in Edmonton, eventually completing the tournament on 23 under par. Her total of 257 equalled the LPGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record and gave her an extraordinary nine-shot victory.

Fellow Japanese player Yuri Yoshida finished second on 14 under, with Sei Young Kim another shot behind in third.

Yamashita earned $412,500 for the victory, but the manner of the win was more memorable than the prize money. Holding a tournament lead for four days brings a different kind of pressure, yet nobody came close to unsettling her.

Winning an LPGA Tour event by nine shots is rare. Doing it while matching the tour’s all-time scoring record makes this one of the performances of the season. Official LPGA results

La Sasso becomes LIV Golf’s youngest winner

Michael La Sasso completed his rookie season by becoming the youngest tournament winner in LIV Golf history.

The 22-year-old HyFlyers player won the Indianapolis event on 18 under par, finishing one shot ahead of Jon Rahm. Bryson DeChambeau was among those tied for third on 16 under.

La Sasso only turned professional this year, having joined Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers after winning the NCAA individual championship. His first professional victory arrived rather sooner than most would have expected.

Rahm nevertheless finished the season with another significant prize. The Spaniard secured his third consecutive LIV Golf individual championship, while Legion XIII retained the season-long team title. LIV Golf season-finale coverage

Alker wins a play-off in Canada

Steven Alker defeated Y.E. Yang in a play-off to win the Rogers Charity Classic on the PGA Tour Champions circuit.

Both players finished the regulation 54 holes on 16 under par after Yang shot a final-round 63 and Alker returned a 65. Back at the 18th for the first extra hole, Alker holed a seven-foot birdie putt to secure the title.

It was the New Zealander’s second victory of the season and the 12th PGA Tour Champions title of his career. PGA Tour Champions report

Elsewhere in senior golf, Sweden’s Maria McBride won the US Senior Women’s Open. McBride finished on six under par following a closing 73, five shots ahead of Karrie Webb. USGA championship report

Solheim Cup teams begin to take shape

The conclusion of the CPKC Women’s Open also settled the automatic qualifying positions for the United States Solheim Cup team.

Nine American players have now qualified, leaving captain Angela Stanford with three selections to complete her side.

Europe’s team is already confirmed. Charley Hull and Esther Henseleit qualified through the LET Solheim Cup standings, while Lottie Woad, Maja Stark, Céline Boutier, Carlota Ciganda, Linn Grant and Nanna Koerstz Madsen earned their places through the world rankings.

Captain Anna Nordqvist selected Leona Maguire, Julia López Ramirez, Nastasia Nadaud and Mimi Rhodes as her four picks.

The PGA Tour season reaches its conclusion at East Lake, where the leading 30 players in the FedExCup standings will contest the Tour Championship.
